Very interesting. I had never heard of internal vs external processors before, and it makes a lot of sense. I agree with you that internal processors owe to their partners to go back to the conversation, but external processors also have to understand other people’s limits. They should also understand that “resolving” an issue means a lot more than talking for hours until the other person agrees with them. I’ve seen external processors who just keep going until they get the resolution they’re looking for, accusing the other person of never wanting to solve any issues, when the reality is that they don’t accept a resolution that’s any different from what they already have in mind.
